LTV Steel Mining Railroad is the former Erie Mining. Here is an Industrial railroad. Everything used in dedicated service. Taconite operations receive a deep dive. No pun intended.

Vintage diesels are the workhorses on LTV. Alco, Electromotive, and Baldwin power. They are lettered for Erie Mining Company.

Pentrex had close access approval. Some tight, detailed views. Cab ride action. LTV trackage runs from the Plant to lakefront docks. A distance of 74 miles.

An F unit set haul 96 taconite ore cars from the Lake Superior Ore Dock to the Taconite Plant.. Locomotive 4210 leads this train. Lash-up of F9A/B/B plus an EMD GP38.

Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota, is the area for mining. A quarry is visited. Dispatch office and plant production structures. If you like ‘grimy railroading’, step right in…

Various locomotives pull the loaded cars. Alcos are favored for Side Dump Cars in rock haulage. Equipped for Remote Control. Rather odd looking chopnose Alco RS-11 units. Butt ugly front end!

The Concentrator-  Crusher functions are located at a central location to the multiple area mines. The Concentator seperates the ore concentrate. Pellets are formed and baked into Taconite in the Pelletizer.

Twenty miles away from Crusher. A C-424 7230 and a C-420 7222 are paired on this route. Hauling rock from a more distant mine.

Baldwin S12 switchers handle the duties around the Plant vicinity. 7241 with gondolas.

Pentrex knocked this out of the park! The well weathered locomotives may provide inspiration to Model Railroaders. The LTV had an intriguing vintage roster.
