Central Kentucky Rails

CKEN-DVD

Producer: Pentrex

Timeframe: 2015

Locations: Central KY.

Length: 2 hours

What we have here. A smorgasbord of the Central Kentucky railroad scene in 2015. Class ones are; CSX and Norfolk Southern. RJ Corman is the regional. Yes, they include the dinner train. Paducah & Louisville is another regional. A couple of operational train musuems, round out this program.

David Drui performs his high quality narration. The script is on the thin side. More about that aspect later.

There is a Chapter Menu. Audio option has the choice of narration. Basic maps that highlight given routes.

At Bowling Green, an inoperative L&N painted E8 replica, appears ready to work.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-13h40m47s038General freights traverse the former L&N line. Much of the weather is cloudy conditions.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-13h58m14s241Paducah & Louisville was only available, with daytime switching. Disappointing.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h01m57s155LaGrange features street running.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h08m32s251This SD70 is an ex: IC unit. Those CN colors are a change from the CSX colors.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h10m34s515This was an old tunnel.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h12m34s931

Covington. C&O rails. The old signal bridge still serves. So, the first half of the show is complete with CSX.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h21m07s934Norfolk Southern departs southbound on former Southern rails from Cincinnati. The route goes to Danville.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h24m47s002Many freight cars are shown on both class ones. Here, some coil cars on NS.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h32m43s318The Rathole, is included for a look. This is covered, much better in the Pentrex title, The Rathole combo. Lack of narrative detail here, drags down the show. As well as the actual film. Again, captured better in the combo.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-14h51m27s503Matter of fact, although the overall historical aspects are fine. Noticeable, are a dearth of info on actual train operations throughout the entire program. Both for CSX and NS. Very lightweight.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-13h47m05s943

Roger Corman dinner train shown.

What does a Corman freight diesel look like? Here you go, with a pair!

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-15h10m52s693The Kentucky and Tennessee, is a tourist line.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-15h12m53s554The Bluegrass Museum, is the first of two visited. A GP7 pulls tourists. That Illinois Central Gulf Paducah rebuild, appears stranded on a display track.

vlcsnap-2019-08-10-15h28m43s213Kentucky Railway Museum. An ex: Reading GP7 is used. The round-trip is featured. An 11 mile journey.

 Central Kentucky Rails

Meets the advertised as far as content. CSX half was the best part of this show. Norfolk Southern was rather plain. RJ Corman was fine. Paducah and Louisville a little disappointing.

None of the Museum visits were memorable. Small time operations. Nothing personal.

Sum total. A mixed bag. Somewhat dependent on interests. In general terms. Not great, not bad. A plus up, for high quality visuals.

The crowd loves my singing. I sound like; Joe Cocker, Greg Allman, with a bluesy tone. Nobody was more shocked than me. A late bloomer.

I love to have some laughs. People think that I am hilarious, and I remain clueless as to why... :)

I hope that everyone enjoys the material.
