Steamtown was moved from Bellows Falls, Vermont, to Scranton, Pennsylvania, in 1984. This was after the passing of F.Nelson Blount. A dedicated facility for Steamtown was opened in 1995.

Highlights …Steamtown National Historic Site
A brief tour of some of the museum exhibits. Poster size photographs are one element. General outdoor scenes that include the yard and adjacent mall.
A refurbished 13 stall roundhouse is a centerpiece of the museum. Three original stalls from Lackawanna Railroad.
A half-dozen steam engines parade on the Grand Opening. Here are a couple.
Steamtown 0-6-0 switcher opens the locomotive grand parade.
Reading, Blue Mountain, and Northern 425. Pacific type. It journeyed to this event.
After viewing glimpses of festivities, the show becomes focused on several excursion moves.
June 24th at Newcastle, Pennsylvania. The Milwaukee Road loco gets coal. Travels up to Buffalo and final destination at Scranton.
The 261 gets chased on a trip to Buffalo, New York. Travels to Scranton.
Susquehanna 142 with Suzie Q diesels.

Alco Century 2461 Delaware- Lackawanna with an NRHS special out of Scranton.
Canadian Pacific 2317 with Susquehanna E8 and train. Arrives at Moscow. Thirteen miles.
UP 4012 Big Boy is static display.
Steamtown had a collection of 29 locomotives, according to the narrative. More of these would have been desirable.
Canadian National 3254 was a freight engine in its day. Performs excursion service for Steamtown.
Steamtown Grand Opening
Good show, although more of the Grand Opening footage or static collection was expected. The assorted excursions are satisfactory.
The 60 minutes does pass quickly. Milwaukee Road 261 receives plenty of attention. Variety provided by the rest.
An excellent addition to the National Park System. It’s a fine show for anyone’s Steam locomotive collection.
