At the Throttle Cab Ride Volume 5 The Surfline

Producer: Pentrex

Locations: Oceanside, Miramar Hill, San Diego, San Clemente..

Timeframe: 2008

Length: 1 hour 30 minutes

In Volume 5, Pentrex mounts cameras on several BNSF locomotives in Southern California. Inside and outside the cabs.

A single DVD. Chapter menu. Previews. Dave Drui on a good narrative.

Excellent picture. Live environmental audio. High-quality Pentrex production.

Exception for the long sequences with wind rattling the outdoor microphone. Actually, the wind noise becomes annoying on the big stereo. One should keep the volume down to avoid damaging speakers with the random frequency spikes. Should have been limited by audio tech. Deduction.  To the Trains…

Let’s Ride…

The show is in San Diego and Southern Orange County. The Surfline runs Oceanfront and nearby. Most BNSF freight operates this line at night.

San Diego Coaster about to depart

Beginning at Oceanside, CA. An unrestricted frontal view as the train traverses the route. The Marine Layer often creates a misty sky. Destination is towards San Diego. Commuter Passenger traffic is present. A Coaster is set to roll.

Amtrak Pacific Surfliner

An Amtrak Pacific Surfliner is push/ pull. That rattle is the air banging on an outside microphone. Freights may travel at 55 mph through here. Double track in certain stretches.

Coastline just South of Del Mar station.

Some nice views of the Pacific coast. 42 43 minutes

Miramar Hill

Upgrade on Miramar Hill. Runtime about an hour on this trip. Show deviates to a different train next Chapter.

An Engineer’s seat view on 5421

Aboard BNSF 5421. Now 3rd back in the four unit lash-up. Behind SD40 7332. Out of San Diego. This audio is better controlled. Occasional radio traffic is heard. Inside the cab microphone. Condensed run to San Bernardino. Yet, seems to get near Barstow and cut.

Notice the green BN trailing

On a curve.Reverse view. The green BN locomotive is 4th.

San Clemente

See some beachfront on this Northbound move. This second trip has the sun shining. Morning marine layer having burned away. San Clemente Pier at left.

San Clemente

A well-worn Santa Fe Warbonnet for a few minutes is the third and final train. Deja Vu at this point.

At the Throttle Cab Ride Volume 5 The Surfline

A nice tour of the Surfline. Although it doesn’t achieve San Diego or Los Angeles. The views seen are mighty fine.

The lone exception is the wind noise on the long trip. Deduction. Otherwise, an excellent image. Marine Layer a valid weather element of San Diego area.

Anyone who likes Cab Ride action should be satisfied.

The crowd loves my singing. I sound like; Joe Cocker, Greg Allman, with a bluesy tone. Nobody was more shocked than me. A late bloomer.

I love to have some laughs. People think that I am hilarious, and I remain clueless as to why... :)

I hope that everyone enjoys the material.
