Early 251 started as a six cylinder motor. The S-6 switcher had 800 horsepower. Introduction was in 1955. Engine 56 switches hoppers at Kenowa, West Virginia.. Check the bent stancions. Model Railroaders with any locomotives with some old bent metal stanchions or railings, take note. A prototype for most everything.

Genesee Valley 3600 is at Batavia, New York. This is an Alco RS-11 aka DL-701. These were the 1st Road Switchers equipped with the 251 engine. The 12 cylinder was rated at 1800 horsepower. Introduction was in 1956. A total of 431 were built.

RSD-12 units are similar. These are 12 axle diesels. Seen on the West Tennessee. Location is West Humboldt, Tennessee.

RSD-15. 251, 16 cylinder motor. 2400 horsepower. Nicknamed as Alligators, due to the long nose. Wabash and Ohio 443 is at Henderson, Kentucky. Originally was built for Santa Fe in 1960.

MLW first 251 diesel was the RS-18. Horsepower was 1800. CP Rail 1830. Switching cars at Binghamton, NY.

Canadian National 1761 ( RSC-14) and 8710 (S-13) are switching at Halifax, Nova Scotia. The 1761 is an RS-18 conversion to a 12 axle diesel by CN.

T-6. Transfer locomotive. Rated at 1000 HP. 52 Arkansas and Missouri 14. A former NW. Van Buren, Arkansas.

FP4A. This model has 1800 hp. Canadian VIA was operating these as seen in 1986. The original order was in 1959 for Canadian National.

Baltimore and Ohio 800 is out for a ride. This privately owned locomotive is sporting a classic B&O livery. Operated on Western Maryland Scenic with some bits of a cab ride, as well.

RS-27 on Minnesota Commercial is a rare model. Shown at Minneapolis. Rated at 2400 HP.

Eastern Tennessee Railway 211 is an RS-32 with a local at Elizabethtonl. A former Southern Pacific engine.

George Hockaday owns these RS-11 look alikes. Both types are DL-701 models with 1800 HP. Thie Ontario Central 86 is ex: Nickel Plate Road. It gets chased and includes some cab ride footage. Interchanges with Conrail at East Shortsville, New York.
Those Incredible Alcos Volume 2
Incredible Alcos Volume 2 is another solid entry in this Alco diesel series. Thorough research and a well organized presentation that educates and entertains.
Alcophiles and Railfans can find this a fine addition to collections. Pentrex sought out running examples of each featured Alco model.
The high Pentrex production standards are in place. David Drui narrative is spot on. Many locations with an abundance of Shortlines. Canadian National and Canadian Pacific are the big hitters. A something for everyone program.
