To the Trains… 👉

Begins in Spring 1973. Various moves. Here, a Penn Central Electromotive switcher 8765 works in the hump in Junction Yard in Dearborn, Michigan. Locomotive call-out errors. This is not an S-2 or S-4. There are more mistakes.

Amtrak E8A 4316 sports a singular paint scheme on a short train. This is a Chicago bound passenger departing Dearborn, MI.

An SD40 leads five engines on NY-4 as it rolls past an Emery favorite spot. Wayne Jct. Tower. The location is across from a Ford Plant.

Here is GP9 7506 with a Flexi-Van move in West Detroit. Cadillac Factory is in the background. Small signs read US Mail on these containers.

A trio of C&O locomotives enter the Detroit River Tunnel.

River Rouge Bridge is busy with rail and boat traffic. Detroit, Toledo & Ironton leader 252 runs on trackage rights. Additional DT&I freights are shown.

Penn Central 2427 (EMD GP35) 2327 and 2536 (Alco C-425) haul the Ringling Brothers Barnum & Bailey ‘red’ Circus Train. Station is Findlay, Ohio. Note that the Alco Century is still in Pennsylvania Railroad paint. This move gets followed by Emery all the way to Detroit River Tunnels.

Penn Central GG-1 earns it’s keep on the Northeast Corridor electric lines. Metroliners are seen at various locations, as well. Some vintage equipment is still operating in 1973. More passenger service than I ever need. Yet, one can’t beat the visual quality.

Pair of GE E44 electrics creep by, from a stop on a Piggyback train. Plenty more passengers follow at assorted spots while under the catenary.

A caboose on every freight was commonplace in 1973. Penn Central employs a variety of them, and assorted paint schemes.
Penn Central 4
Green Frog high production quality. Outstanding cinematography by Emery Gulash. Soundtrack is excellent.
Overall, the remastered 16mm film source that looks awesome. Decent narrative.
Would have preferred more freight and less Metroliners, commuter traffic. Gets too repetitive. Still, for the stellar appearance, it is worth adding to a collection. Railfans and Model Railroaders should appreciate this show. A classic Emery Gulash show.
