To the Trains… 👉

Machine harvesting and field loading to send Sugar Cane to the mills. This is the basic operation. Assorted size locomotives and track gauge are more efficient than trucks.

Cardenas Baldwin Mogul 1530.(2-6-0) on it’s way to the mill at Progresso.

Steam tank engine #1204 hauls cane on dual gauge track. There are various types in the show.

Three Baldwin narrow gauge 2-8-0 locomotives. The power gets ready for the days chores. Engines 1321, 1355 and another are at the shed. Number 1321 is a Baldwin built in 1913 and pulls out first.

Maltiempo 1355 (2-8-0) is at the end of the line. It makes the pickup.

Maltiempo 1355 has a loaded train now. Note the auxiliary water tank.

Marcelo Salado 1429 is a 2-6-0. This is standard gauge.

MS 1549 is an Alco 2-8-0 from 1920. Transfer caboose type is what shows up on the trains.

Mikado 1910 is one of the largest steamers in Cuba.
Cuba Steam
The century old steam engines are a window into the past. Grimey and oily, these are hard-working locomotives. Quite a difference from restored museum power operating in the US.
Cuba appears as if stuck in the 1950s. Not a critism. Automobiles are vintage American 1950s. Horses and oxen drawn carts. Some views of the towns and environments also add to lack of modernization.
Here is a unique train show. The antique steam locomotives are the main focus. Interesting show.
