Vintage Pennsylvania Railroad formatted in Widescreen. Also, it contains some ultra-rare anamorphic aka CinemaScope films from 1956. It’s highly unusual to see in a program. 

This collection has black and white, plus color films. Soundtrack contains train sounds and music. Image quality varies by sources. Good to very good overall. Grainy scenes, as well.

A single DVD-R.  Main menu offers on/off narration. Hidden chapter advance. No maps. Narrated by Danny Harmon, Ralph Morse, and Russ Wheeler.

This show has many film sources. Numerous locations. Have some listed in the scenes. Soundtrack of train sounds and some music. Audio is well balanced.

Interesting places include: Horseshoe Curve, Chicago, St. Louis, Louisville, Cincinnati, Columbus, Akron, Bellevue, New York & Long Branch Railroad, Reading, Pennsylvania, and more… This review just has some show highlights. There are numerous surprises.

To the Trains…

Pittsburgh, 28th Street Yard

Opens in color. A few brief scenes at Pittsburgh 28th Street Yard. Circa 1940s.

1939 New York

Onward onto the mainlines. Assorted freight and passenger trains at Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Visit the 1939 New York World’s Fair. See some Eastern locomotives on display.

Steam at work in Central Pennsylvania. Locomotives are not individually identified or locations. However, it is an all color segment.

Horseshoe Curve

Upgraded Horseshoe Curve film. Authentic PRR sound and remastered from Glory Machines 1. Doubleheader on several trains. Additional footage. Good supply of trains on the Shoe!

Englewood Chicago

K-4 locomotives at Englewood Station in 1939 with bw footage. Plus, newer color. Don Krofta.

Clear Track Ahead

A segment on T-1 Duplex. This is from official 1946 Pennsylvania film, Clear Track Ahead. Building, maintaining, and testing Steam locomotives is included.

St. Louis

Rare, Streamlined 3678 K-4 for The Jeffersonian and more at is seen at St. Louis.

Louisville

Louisville features much action. J1a a 2-10-4 backs across to the Indiana side. Passes Clyde Tower.

Columbus Shops color in 1950s. The Pennsylvania employed 8,000 workers here! This guy also visited the Sandusky Lines.

East Reading

Atlantic type E-6 645 on the turntable at East Reading. This engine gets chased towards Philadelphia. George Gerhart footage.

George Gerhart experimented with anamorphic color film in 1957. Also known as Cinemascope. Mega rare. Outstanding!  Pennsylvania Railroad on its route at Shamokin, PA. A couple of I-1 type Decapods, aka Hippos, will form a train leaving town with a doubleheader.

Mount Carmel

Doubleheader 2-10-0 type I-1 steamers haul coal to the Lehigh Valley.  Pennsylvania F3 and F7 helpers. Delivers to these Lehigh Valley F units at Mt. Carmel.

Classic Pennsy Widescreen

An intriguing assortment of classic Pennsylvania Railroad. Steam, early diesels and GG-1. The Widescreen format is satisfying. Anamorphic chapter is amazing!

Excellent vintage Pennsylvania variety in this widescreen presentation.

This is a great collection for Railfans and Model Railroaders!
