The show begins, right where the previous Volume 8 closed. In Western Pennsylvania. The Plymouth Trail Duster, stuck in a roadside ditch.

The SD45 units are assigned Helpers on this visit. Middle Division is busy as ever.

Conrail is using Electromotive GP40 units, on hot TrailVan/ piggyback moves. Middle Division action.

Conrail Coal Train smokes it up! Those hot brakeshoes are causing the cloudiness. Check that ex: Reading unit in this lashup. Extended Pennsylvania visit.

Conrail 6697 SDP45 is a former Erie Lackawanna. Mike would tip his Dad, of oncoming traffic from Allentown Yard. Hence, Pops camera was ready to film. Plenty of Trains, were recorded out back, in 1981.

Mike relates, this was the final D&H move over Lehigh Valley rails, at that location.

Hey Mike… Of course, Crews often say Hello to Mike and Pops.

The Bednar bunch was chasing this SW powered train. Friendly Engineer needed a little break. Mike is happy to takeover.

Seems that most everyone knows Pops and Mike. In the narrative, he mentions that many black painted engines are still in service. Former Penn Central power.

Plenty of cabooses to see. This classic, is a former Pennsylvania RR. An N5-C if you must know. Again, at Bednar’s backyard!
Railfanning with the Bednars Volume 9
This Volume 9 is somewhat unique. It has a high percentage filmed in Pennsylvania. Another large amount, shot behind the Bednar residence.
They visit some of the familiar places. Allentown and vicinity. More or less.
Excellent view of early 1980s period Conrail. Still in a transition phase. Some D&H on a decline. Mike and his Dad, are having a good time.
