Railfanning with the Bednars Volume 9

Producer: John Pechulis

Locations: Lehigh Valley, Western PA.

Timeframe: 1980-1982

Length: 72 minutes

Source: Joe Bednar

The Bednar series timeline moves forward. Here with additional Conrail action. Delaware and Hudson, as well.

A DVD-R. Chapter Menu. Narration by Mike Bednar. No maps or other extras.

Super 8mm color film. Outstanding restoration! Audio sounds excellent.

The show begins, right where the previous Volume 8 closed. In Western Pennsylvania. The Plymouth Trail Duster, stuck in a roadside ditch.

SD45 units are helpers, on the Middle Divison.

The SD45 units are assigned Helpers on this visit. Middle Division is busy as ever.

EMD GP40s have this Trailvan at speed

Conrail is using Electromotive GP40 units, on hot TrailVan/ piggyback moves. Middle Division action.

Brakeshoe smoke from this Coal Train

Conrail Coal Train smokes it up! Those hot brakeshoes are causing the cloudiness. Check that ex: Reading unit in this lashup. Extended Pennsylvania visit.

CR6697 is an SDP45. This behind Bednar’s house.

Conrail 6697 SDP45 is a former Erie Lackawanna. Mike would tip his Dad, of oncoming traffic from Allentown Yard. Hence, Pops camera was ready to film. Plenty of Trains, were recorded out back, in 1981.

Last Delaware and Hudson train, behind the house.

Mike relates, this was the final D&H move over Lehigh Valley rails, at that location.

Hey Mike…

Hey Mike… Of course, Crews often say Hello to Mike and Pops.

Mike subs for a tired Engineer

The Bednar bunch was chasing this SW powered train. Friendly Engineer needed a little break. Mike is happy to takeover.

Engineer sees Joe is filming and slows down.

Seems that most everyone knows Pops and Mike. In the narrative, he mentions that many black painted engines are still in service. Former Penn Central power.

An ex: Pennsylvania caboose.

Plenty of cabooses to see. This classic, is a former Pennsylvania RR. An N5-C if you must know. Again, at Bednar’s backyard!

Railfanning with the Bednars Volume 9

This Volume 9 is somewhat unique. It has a high percentage filmed in Pennsylvania. Another large amount, shot behind the Bednar residence.

They visit some of the familiar places. Allentown and vicinity. More or less.

Excellent view of early 1980s period Conrail. Still in a transition phase. Some D&H on a decline. Mike and his Dad, are having a good time.

Rating: 5 Stars

A musician for many years. Guitar is my main instrument. Enjoy bass playing .Rock and Blues styles. However, Lead Vocals have been a Huge surprise!
The crowd loves my singing. I sound like; Joe Cocker, Greg Allman, with a bluesy tone. Nobody was more shocked than me. A late bloomer.

I love to have some laughs. People think that I am hilarious, and I remain clueless as to why... :)

I hope that everyone enjoys the material.
